Hamilton Beach Bread Maker Troubleshooting Tips

Want to know how to avoid any baking disasters? For starters, use high protein wheat flour (usually labeled bread flour). Just stick to your recipes, being creative is good but not from your first dough. Most issues with dough failure are due to recipe imbalance.

Why does my bread collapse in the bread machine?

Number one reason for collapsed bread in the bread machine is using insufficient amount of yeast. Either you put too little yeast or your yeast was no good in the beginning. Check the date on the package or even better, throw some in half cup lukewarm water, if the yeast does not get foamy in 3-4 minutes then it is not active.

Why is my bread machine bread so dense?

It is probably because you did not put enough liquid. Adjust next time by adding more water or oil. This usually happens because your dough was too stiff in the first place.

Why is my bread machine bread so pale and firm?

Bread gets pale and firm when you put too much water and cook over too low settings. Increase water and select a higher temperature setting next time.

Why is my bread sunk in the middle?

Your flour might be low on protein or you didn’t add enough flour in the beginning. Inadequate dry ingredients cause this issue.

Why does my bread machine bread taste like yeast?

This happens when you put too much sugar in the dough. Excess sugar pumps up the yeast too much and you end up with a nasty yeasty taste, certainly not a pleasant flavor.
