Proja Recipe – Make Easily Delicious Serbian Bread
One of the oldest types of bread in Serbia is definitely the Proja. It has beene in every Serbian home for centuries. Our great-grandmothers used to bake Proja for their families and relatives in various occasions such as Patron Saint, Christmas, and ’’litije’’. My grandma taught me how to make Proja using our family’s recipe, which I am going to share with you today.
You can bake Proja in a regular baking tray, but I prefer to make muffin shapes, then Proja has a sweeter taste. Follow next instructions to bake a delicious Proja.Ingredients:
2 cups of white corn flour
2 eggs
3/4 cups of white cheese (feta)
1 cup oil
2 glasses of sparkling water
2 glasses of water
1 teaspoon of baking powder
2 teaspoons salt
Instructions:
- Mix all the ingredients in a large bowl.
- In a specifically designed muffin tray, pour your dough carefully. I used muffin shaped baking paper to be sure that the dough will not stick to the tray. Otherwise, you could oil or butter the tray.
- Bake on 420F for 40 minutes or until golden brown.
I usually eat Proja with yogurt or milk, however you can eat them as they are because they taste delicious!
